Meet Alfred Tang – Our Mechanical Engineer

Question: Tell us about your journey within CPS
Answer: The incredible journey began in May 2023, when I joined the CPS Application Team as a graduate engineer. It was my first exposure to the real-world engineering environment since graduation. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the challenges that came my way. However, thanks to the support and guidance of the most inspiring team I could have hoped for, I’ve grown significantly. The CPS Application Team has helped me broaden my perspective and deepen my knowledge of real-world engineering.

Question: What does a typical day or week look like for you?
Answer: Each day brings a variety of tasks and challenges, including frame design, roller configuration analysis, and conveyor condition assessment. My responsibilities involve developing solutions to support our sales team, managing the technical scope and execution of large tender projects, and preparing relevant documentation such as equipment datasheets and calculation reports for clients.

Question: Are there CPS strengths or behaviors that you feel really help you excel?
Answer: At CPS, we say ‘there are no dumb questions’. The senior members in my team have large knowledge base and hands-on experience. They always provide me with guidance and inspirations whenever I need, and all the patience to help me build a solid understanding about my questions.

Question: Can you share a particular project you enjoyed working on, and how did it deliver value to the client?
Answer: This year I have engaged with our client on a project to reduce the dropped object risks on tracking frames on site. During the project, the design criteria were complex and restricted, and I needed to innovate with a new design concept to incorporate these criteria. With the help and guidance from my team, we developed a new design of the tracking frame that fits all design criteria from our client.

Question: Would you like to share anything about life outside CPS? What do you enjoy doing?
Answer: Outside of my work, I like building LEGO, especially technical series. I have a large LEGO collection that turns my living room into a small LEGO museum.
