CPS Launches Loaded Run-up Test Rig for Conveyor Pulleys

Conveyor Products & Solutions (CPS) has taken another major step forward in pulley quality assurance, unveiling its new Loaded Run-up Test Rig at the CPS Pulley Facility in Bayswater, WA.
The custom-built rig is designed to simulate real-world pulley operation under load, providing in-depth vibration analysis and thermographic data before pulleys ever reach site.
Pulleys operate under high load and speed, often in remote, high-stakes environments. CPS’ new test rig replicates these conditions, enabling comprehensive performance checks on bearings, seals, shells, and shafts.
Powered by a VSD Drive, the rig allows testing at the same speed and wrap configuration as the intended site installation.
“We’re able to detect issues like imbalance, bearing faults and lubrication, looseness, and shaft issues long before the pulley is installed,” Herscovitz said. “This means fewer surprises in the field, and far less unplanned downtime.”
Once a pulley passes the test, it’s certified for release, and for full transparency, CPS offers optional third-party verification.
Each test can be verified by an accredited independent third-party authority. Results can then be sent directly to the commissioning customer.
The Loaded Run-up Test Rig is also available for onsite spare pulleys, particularly those stored for extended periods.
“Conveyor pulleys stored onsite for more than two years may develop issues that aren’t visible during visual inspection. A loaded run-up test can help avoid problems down the line when that pulley is brought back into operation,” explained Herscovitz.

CPS’ Loaded Run-up Test Rig is designed to handle a wide range of pulley types and sizes:

- Speed: 0–8 m/s
- Adjustable wrap angle to suit pulley type
