Yeloroll HD Proven in Copper Mining Application in Peru

In the demanding environment of copper mining, reliability and durability are paramount. Since 2021, Fenner Conveyors has been supplying Yeloroll HD ultralight composite rollers to a copper mining operation in southern Peru, situated 4,100 metres above sea level. Operating in extreme seasonal temperatures ranging from -7°C to 25°C, the site presented a unique challenge perfectly suited to Yeloroll HD’s unique capabilities.
Prior to the introduction of Yeloroll HD, the site relied on steel rollers across various zones including loading, project, and return areas. These steel rollers were prone to material build-up, particularly in the loading zones. Mineral adhesion to the metal shells led to crown formation, misalignment, and structural vibration, ultimately causing premature roller failure and increased maintenance demands.
To address these issues, Fenner Conveyors proposed a trial using Yeloroll HD composite rollers. Weighing just 14 kg, these rollers are 44% lighter than their steel counterparts, significantly improving safety, ergonomics, and change-out efficiency. Thanks to their unique composite formulation, Yeloroll HD rollers drastically reduced mineral adherence to the roller mantle. This minimised build-up and vibration, extended bearing life, and enhanced overall roller reliability.
Outstanding Results After 3+ Years
After three years of continuous operation, a sample set of Yeloroll HD rollers was disassembled for inspection. The findings were impressive:
- Zero millimetres of shell wear
- Minimal mineral adhesion
- No ingress of fine material in the running-in area
- SKF bearings remained in excellent condition
These results underscore the long-term value and performance of Yeloroll HD in harsh mining environments.
