CPS Yeloroll-HD Rollers Deliver Over 700% Increase in Roller Performance

Posted at April 05, 2023

This article is about the High Moisture Impacting Roller Life case study of CPS

A prominent gold mining client in northern Peru contacted CPS to request a new roller design for their 18” pebbles circuit connected to their SAG mill station. All conveyors at the station run with high degrees of humidity, resulting in advanced roller wear and reduced lifespan (the average roller life on the pebbles circuit was just one month!).

The site’s current steel rollers were experiencing significantly shorter lifespans due to water excess, with rollers often failing at labyrinths and seizing due to the high humidity. Conveyor rollers made entirely from steel, including the bearing housing, typically feature a welded seam along the shoulder of the roller. This is a strong but potentially abrasive arrangement that can lead to belt damage due to a “pizza cutter” style failure, where the bearing housing cuts into the belt as the roller reaches its end of life. This, added to the humid conditions, meant the site was experiencing significant premature roller failure, resulting in frequent change-outs and unscheduled shutdowns which in turn, impacted heavily on operational safety and productivity.

As a solution, CPS recommended the installation of our Yeloroll-HD rollers for both carry and return sides of their pebbles circuit.

After the initial installation, CPS Yeloroll-HD Rollers outlasted the current steel rollers by up to seven to eight months, delivering a 700%+ increase in roller performance!

CPS Yeloroll-HD Rollers prevent corrosion on frames and rollers—increasing roller life and productivity thanks to reduced changeouts and resulting downtime. These rollers provide an ideal solution for sites experiencing premature roller failures and conveyor belt damage—even in extreme operating conditions, such as high humidity.
