Delivering Under Deadline: CPS Cuts Lead Time by Over 50%

Posted at September 09, 2025

Faced with a shortened deadline for a conveyor pulley featuring a custom THDD bearing housing, CPS responded by bringing the housing fabrication in-house, delivering the completed unit for Hancock Iron Ore’s Pilbara Project in just 6.5 weeks.

One week after the initial request, the project was escalated to high priority, requiring an accelerated manufacturing and delivery schedule. The custom bearing housing, typically a long-lead item, posed a significant risk to meeting the revised timeline.

By shifting fabrication internally, CPS reduced lead time, controlled quality, and maintained project momentum. This approach also delivered notable cost savings and eliminated reliance on external suppliers.

The bearing housings were finished in pink to support Hancock Iron Ore’s ongoing breast cancer awareness initiatives. This continues CPS’s participation in previous efforts, including a pink belt winder in 2024 and pink conveyor roller flingers across multiple HIO sites.

This project highlights CPS’s capability to respond quickly, solve complex manufacturing challenges in-house, and support client initiatives beyond the technical scope.
